Day 27

Today we learned about being the CA, and about emergencies.  Also we took our clinic manual test.  I cant believe this was the last day of clinic.  Now until next semester!!!

Day 26... REAL PATIENT DAY

I made it through my real patient day. Wow there is alot to do in what feels like not a lot of time.  I got through the OHI and took x-rays.  My husband got to be the lucky first patient.  He had some areas of recession that were very sensitve.  It was a good learning experience of how to deal with that.  Im excited to bring him back and finish him.

Day 25

Second day of being the patient.  I got the rest of my quads scaled and flouride.  By the end my jaw really hurt.  That was good to know then I can be able to know that I might want to rub my patients jaw at the end.  Once again this was a great experience.  Good job Leigh, you did an amazing job!

Day 24, I am the Patient!!

I got to be Leighs patient for our mock days.  She did such a great job.  It was a good experience being the patient and to know how our patients are feeling when we are working on them.  Leigh got so far, she scaled one quad.  She got to finish at the next app.

Mock Patient Continued.... Day 23

To begin I brought my patient Leigh back to my unit.  We made sure there were no changes to her health history and I filled out the HHX and HHX/RX.  I visually did a extra and intra oral exam.  Then I did a quick OHI where I disclosed her and found out her PFI to see if it had improved since her last visit.  Then it was time to start scaling.  I learned alot of new things as I did a full mouth scale on Leigh.  I learned about more instruments and I think I found some new favorites.  I love the nevi!! I also passed of my sealant PE by doing to sealants on her.  It was overall a good experience.  I hope that I will be more prepared for a real patient.  I guess we will see on the Nov 22 if I am!! :)

Mock Patient. Day 22

Today we had our first day of our mock patients.  Leigh was my great patient.  I brought her back and started from the beginning by going over her health history, taking her vitals and doing the HHX and also the HHX/RX.  Then I began doing the OD, starting with extra and intraoral exams.  Then I probed and filled in the green and blue dh forms.  Then I came up with a treatment plan on the computer.  Finally I patiently waited for an OD check.  When everything was okayed I printed the treatment plan and started on the OHI.  That was as far as I got for the first day.  I walked Leigh out, came back and filled out her chart.  It was a great experience starting from the beginning and seeing how far I would get.  I get to finish on wednesday... so until then.

Day 16

Today I was the patient for the whole clinic session.  We started from the HHX all the way to the OHI.  Just that much takes so much time.  My patients are going to be here forever when I start seeing them.  Hopefully I get faster at all of this.  Next clinic I have to pass off 4 PE's.  I better start preparing for them.  Next time I will be the operator for the whole session and im sure I will learn alot.  Until then.....

Practice, Practice, Practice!! Day 11

Today was a well needed day of practicing exploring and probing.  I had to remeber how to do it again, but after I got the hang of it, it became easier.  Getting better slowly.  Oh and also today we organized our instruments and learned more about each instrument.  Maybe one day I will know the names of them all... maybe ha! Im sure I will sometime.  I was looking at our module for next clinic and I think we get to start to learn how to scale.. YEAH!! So excited for that! Next blog you'll see how that went... Until then!!!

Wahoo.. Day 10

For clinic on monday we learned the explorer PE.  Then of course we practiced.  Thanks Kelsey for being such a great patient for me to practice on.  I have to learn to turn with the curve of the tooth faster so I dont poke the gums.  I think this is easier than probing though.  I still need lots of practice with both.  But im sure will have many times to do it to get good at it.

9th Day of Clinic!

Today was my very first day of probing!!  I was so scared!  I need alot more practice.. ha probably like years before I am a pro at probing, well at least thats how I feel right now.  But hopefully after some more practice I will at least feel confident to probe real patients.  I need to practice getting the angles right when I am getting the measurements for the col area. Practice makes perfect!

Day 8

Today in clinic we learned how to do intra oral exams and how to fulcrum our instruments.  Wow, I learned I have alot of habits I need to break to do the right fulcrum.  I practiced alot today, but I still need more practive.  Hopefully one day it will become easy to me.  Then we had a guest speaker about being a member of the ADHA.  Well until another day of clinic...

Day 7 of clinic!!!

Today we did extra oral exams and learned how to use our mirror and how to use a fulcrum.  It was a fun day! The time just flew by.  Health histories are starting to make more sense to me now.  We didn't have time to pass of the health hisory PE, so I will have more time to practice it and I will hopefully really have it down by the time we pass it off.  It is so fun to be actually working on eachother.  Im glad we have the oppurtunity to go to the womens health center and do extra oral exams becuase it made it much easier to understand today.  Well until next clinic....

Day 6- Vital Signs

We are really getting in the swing of things in clinic.  Today we learned how to do vital signs.  We practiced on eachother and also reviewed our health histories.  I did not pass of my health hisroty PE today.  I feel like I need to review it more before I do it.  I have afraid I am going to forget to put something down for the health history so I need to practice practice practice. Practice makes perfect, Right?  Well another day of clinic down, lots more to go! Yeah!! :)

5th day of clinic

I am really enjoying clinic.  Its fun to apply those things we learn in class.  Today we went over how to do health histories and how to chart them.  I need to for sure practice this.  I think it will come with experience and as I do more it will become easier.  Then I passed off the post session PE and the positioning PE.  Every thing is coming together.  I can't wait until I get to see a real patient and do everything!!

3rd Day of Clinic

Well it's the 2nd week and the 3rd day of clinic.  I am getting use to clinic and how everything is going to work now.  We learned how to set up and how to do post procedure.  We set everything up our selfs and then we got to use the air water syringe and suction on aother student.  It was fun trying the blue boa on a real patient, becuase this was new to me.  I have used a saliva ejector and HVE before so it was fun applying something new like the blue boa. Then we applied what we learned from the post procedure and cleanded up our unit.  Then I practiced my PPE PE, ha what a mouth full.  I passed it off, one more down, now to study for the others! :)

2nd day of clinic

We had our second day of clinic.  It was nice because we already are kind of familar with the clinic now.  We had a speaker today.  The creater of the Blue Boa.  I think it is so awesome that she created it and it will be so useful.  We got to get familar with them and how they work and also use the HVE and the saliva injector.  We then went over our next PE. We learned about attire, washing hands, eyewear, glasses, and gloving up.  We then practiced washing our hands, putting everything on, and tried on different gloves to see which ones fit us the best.  The one habbit that I am going to have to break is not putting my mask under my chin.  After all that we learned about charting.  I hope that I can get all this down and remember it one day!! I am sure I will though.  Then I passed off my Eaglesoft PE.  Yeah I did good too.  It wasn't to hard.  Stressing for nothing!!
